KAMPALA - The deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, has expressed concern over the increasing potholes on Kampala roads.

In his communication to Parliament on Tuesday, Tayebwa said he had received complaints from various stakeholders including MPs, regarding the poor state of roads in Kampala.

“We have potholes of every design, every design, every size, the beautiful ones, the ugly ones, the deep ones, shallow ones, the wide and narrow ones. They are all in Kampala,” Tayebwa said.

Tayebwa told the House how a certain member of parliament approached him complaining that some men no longer function properly due to their backs getting injured over potholes.

He added: “Honorable Cecelia Ogwal ( Dokolo district) told me that the women are producing prematurely (miscarrying) because of the potholes”.

The deputy speaker has directed the minister for Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and metropolitan affairs to present a statement to parliament on how much money KCCA has received for road construction and maintenance for the last 3 years.

Last year the KCCA executive director Dorothy Kisaka said the authority had named a number of roads measuring up to 70kms across the city, for rehabilitation starting this year.
