The government through the office of the prime minister has donated food items (maize flour and beans) to communities of different villages in Bukono County in Namutumba district who were affected by the September devastating storms last year.
The package of 15,000 kgs was delivered by the district chief administrative officer Emmanuel Offono.
The beneficiaries include residents of Nangonde town council and Nangonde sub-county who lost houses plus acreages plantations of matooke, maize, and groundnuts
The minister for housing and urban development Persis Namuganza was among and other district leaders who attended the events at the district headquarters.
Namuganza who is also the area member of parliament who appreciated the intervention, asked the government for additional support of iron sheets for families who are still in the cold!
She expressed concern that most of them are currently sleeping in shoddy temporary houses they made which is risky in the form of security and health status.
Meanwhile, the Namutumba district LC5 chairperson David Mukisa reported that more victims in Magada, Nabitula, Nsinze, Bulange, Kagulu, and Kizuba in the sub-counties are also in dire need of relief items.
He asserted that they submitted records of all the people affected by the disaster and all people affected are still waiting for aid from the government.
The resident district commissioner Thomas Matende emphasized that priority will be given to the most vulnerable people like widows, people living with HIV, and old people.
He cautioned people who will be assigned for distribution to be transparent and avoid diversion of the items as it may cost them in terms of being penalized and arrested over the matter.
The CAO Emmanuel Ofono said that distribution will kick off as soon as they get the verification documents of the rightful beneficiaries from local leaders.
He appreciated Namuganza and other district leaders who continuously demanded aid from the time they petitioned the relevant authorities.
