MENGO - Senior Presidential Advisor on political affairs in the Office of the National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, Hajati Hadija Namyalo Friday led a big convoy of the Bazzukulu (Museveni’s grandchildren) to Bulange, Mengo, to deliver sh30m for 1,500 kits for the Kabaka’s Birthday run. 

The money was donated by President Yoweri Museveni to enable his 'Bazzukulu' to participate in the April 16, 2023, Kabaka Birthday Run in Lubiri, Mengo.

The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Edward Frederick Kimera Muwenda Mutebi II who on April 13, 2023, turned 68 is flagging off the 100,000 participants at exactly 7am. 

The run includes the 5km, 10km and 21km routes.

Hajati Namyalo says while on the recent presidential tour in Arua City, President Museveni wondered whether his Bazzukulu were not taking part in the run. “I promised him that I would talk to Mengo to allow us to participate,” Namyalo, who is the coordinator of the Bazzukulu said.

The kits were handed to her by the Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga together with a team of Bazzukulu. Others were not allowed inside Bulange after security found the group too big. 

“We also want to dispel idle talk that President Museveni does not support Buganda Kingdom, this is not true, he likes Buganda and is ready to support all the initiatives in the kingdom,” Namyalo said. Several other companies and individuals also received kits and including musician Pius Mayanja also known as Pallaso, whose song, “Nsaba” is one of Kabaka’s favourites.

During his birthday party in Lubiri on Thursday, Kabaka invited Pallaso to perform at the event saying he has often liked the tune while doing drills and exercises. 

Other companies included Kampala Capital City Authority which was represented by the deputy director, Eng. David Luyimbazi, Roofings Limited, Uganda Baati, Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda, Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC), UMEME, Uganda Revenue Authority, Uganda Communications Commission, Bank of Uganda, CIPLA Quality Chemicals, Baylor College of Medicine, Premier Credit, among others.

Earlier on, Hajati Namyalo met Henry Ssekabembe Kiberu, the Mengo Minister for youth, sports and recreation at Bulange who said Buganda as an Institution were grateful to the government for the support, which he said was also a vote of approval for the kingdom’s role in mobilizing masses to take part in development.
