An illegal installation that had been set up on a railway line in Namuwongo has been demolished by the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

The development follows a social media post by one of the dailies depicting a section of the railway line in Namuwongo, a city suburb, fenced off to create a car washing bay.

“We have visited the site where an illegal installation had been set up on the railways line in Namuwongo,” KCCA posted on X formerly known as Twitter on Wednesday.

“This installation has been removed, the suspect arrested and will be arraigned before court,” it added and urged the public to remain vigilant and always report such cases to relevant authorities.

Reactions from the public

Several X handles lauded KCCA's move, while some urged it to do the same to other illegal structures in the city.

However, reacting to the post, an X handle @EtukuriCharles called out what it termed as double standards on the part of the city authority, accusing it of failing to take the same action on the car bond that was constructed at Kyadondo in Lugogo "below the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited lines.

"You stopped him, but my fear is that in 2-3 years, this same guy will be back there packing cars and inconveniencing other road users... Why not bring down that wall?" Charles Etukuri posted.

Another concerned citizen, Ibuuka Bamweyana (@aldrinewills) said: "Give us the names and picture of the said suspect."

The above reactions are among the so many that responded to the post by the city authority.

However, KCCA had not responded to the queries by the time this story was published.
