NDA arrests Dr. Lukwago over controversial advert of washing patients’ blood

The National Drug Authority (NDA) on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 evening arrested herbalist Dr. Ashiraf Rashid Lukwago at his clinic in Kawempe opposite Finca Bank near Kawempe Police after he controversially advertised his capability to purify blood.

The NDA Spokesperson Abiaz Rwamizi confirmed the arrest.

“Our team has just arrested Ashiraf Rashid Lukwago at his “clinic” in Kawempe over misleading drug and treatment claims. This is a few weeks of our intelligence gathering and follow-up working with Uganda Police Force,” Abiaz Rwamizi the NDA spokesperson said.

He said it was only going to be a matter of time! “After weeks of running away from our enforcement team and police, he was arrested on Wednesday,” Rwamizi added.

In the controversial advert, Dr. Lukwago claimed he could wash one’s blood using his herbal medicine to get rid of diseases such as HIV.
