Equities Weekly Wrap: Shares worth sh2b exchange hands

KAMPALA - This week, shares worth slightly over sh2b exchanged hands, compared to sh96m previously, at the Uganda Securities Exchange (USE), according to a market report from Crested Capital.

The total volume traded was 40.5 million shares, compared to about 1.5 million shares exchanged the previous week.

Stanbic led in turnover, dealing worth over sh1.1b or 56.25% of the weekly turnover. MTN moved sh736.2m, Umeme exchanged sh82.4m, Bank of Baroda (BOBU) traded sh52.4m, dfcu Limited (DFCU) conducted trades of value sh19.3m, while Uganda Clays Limited (UCL), Airtel Uganda, Quality Chemicals Industries Limited (QCIL), and NIC Holdings Limited (NIC) exchanged a combined turnover of sh1.9m.

Share Price Movement

Regarding share price movements, five counters saw price changes from the previous week’s close. Stanbic led the gainers, advancing by 2.19% to sh35 per share, MTN added 1.76% to sh173, DFCU was up 1.74% to sh228.92, Umeme rose 1.58% to sh450, QCIL gained 0.95% to sh53, while BOBU remained constant at sh16.50, UCL at sh13.00, Airtel Uganda at sh80, and NIC at sh6.

On the cross-listings, East African Breweries Limited was the sole gainer, adding 10.57%, while other counters were losers. Jubilee Holdings Limited fell 1.76%, Centum Investments lost 4.31%, Nation Media Group shed 6.27%, Equity Group Holdings dropped 6.89%, and KCB Group tumbled by 13.45%.

The USE All Share Index (ALSI) declined by 1.26% to 1,040.05, while the C11 – Crested’s local companies’ index rose 1.12% to 95.62 index points.
