Uganda Premier League: KCCA 2 SC Villa 0

KCCA FC coach Abdullah Mubiru has played down his side’s chances of winning the Uganda Premier League title with only four games to go.

The Tax Collectors beat bitter rivals SC Villa 2-0 under the floodlights at the refurbished Mandela National Stadium Namboole on Wednesday.

"You can't lose five consecutive matches and you dream about winning trophies. But we want to improve that is what we are looking in preparation for the coming season,” Mubiru said.

“We want to make sure we win our next four games we are left with. If we can win all of them we shall be happy," he added.

Usama Arafat was the hero on the day for KCCA, scoring a late brace to leave them on 42 points in the sixth position.

Arafat who took his tally to eight goals this season, attributed his performance to his fellow players and technical team.

"It's not me but the whole team. It's an incredible group of players that I'm playing with that enable me to make work easy and execute the game plan that coaches give us," Arafat said.

Title-chasing Villa came into the match with a big opportunity to close the gap on leaders BUL on 49 points to one point had they beaten KCCA but now they remained fourth on 45 points with a game in hand.

Villa coach Dusan Stojanovic felt they didn't deserve to lose a game in which they failed to convert many chances.

"We played well and at least we should gone away with a point. We only failed to take away our chances which cost us. But we shall build from this," noted Stojanovic.

Wednesday’s doubleheader between BUL and Vipers as well as KCCA and SC Villa served as part of the test matches before the official re-opening of the stadium.

This is one of the requirements by CAF before the facility is given the green light to host international games.

The facility has been closed for more than three years and different football national teams, especially the Cranes have resorted to playing home matches abroad since Uganda had no other facility that could meet international standards.
