Uganda Premier League: BUL 1 Vipers 0

Despite moving top of the Uganda Premier League standings, BUL assistant coach James Magala insists it’s not yet time to celebrate.

BUL stunned defending champions Vipers 1-0 on Wednesday at the refurbished Namboole stadium.

"We have now beaten them twice which is a big boost. But the league is not complete. We have more three games to go which we need to handle very well,” noted Magala.

“We controlled the game. It was a bit tough although we managed to get used to the pitch later, noted Magala.

BUL moved top on 49 points after rivals Kitara had dropped points at home to Mbarara City in a 1-1 draw in Masindi. The chasing pack Kitara, Vipers and SC Villa are on 48, 46 and 45 points respectively.

The Jinja-based side also recorded their first-ever double over Vipers in the league following their 3-2 win in Kitende.

Jerome Kirya scored the all-important goal in the 27th minute after a well-laid pass from Alex Kitata off Nicholas Mwere's long ball.

BUL were without head coach Abbey Kikomeko who was serving a one-match suspension after being sent off in their 1-0 defeat to NEC at Lugogo.

Despite the damaging loss to Vipers’ chances coach Richard Wasswa is still optimistic they will quickly put this setback behind them.

"Wdidn't give in enough. But we also had some chances we didn't utilise. We are going back and we rectify our mistakes and we shall bounce back a better side, noted Wasswa.

The encounter between BUL and Vipers was one of the two games played at Namboole yesterday that served as part of the test matches before the official re-opening of the stadium.

This is one of the requirements by CAF before the facility is given the green light to host international games.
