In the last five years, Uganda has attracted 12 key
projects from Tanzania worth over $474 million (about shillings 1.7 trillion), with the prospective to create 7,465 jobs, the Uganda Investment Authority director for investment promotion, Martin Muhangi, has said.

Muhangi, who did not name the projects, made the remarks at the launch of the 2nd edition of the Uganda-Tanzania business forum at Kampala Serena Hotel on Thursday, May 9.

The forum is set to take place from May 23 to 24, 2024 at Johari Rotana Hotel in Tanzania’s coastal city of Dar es Salaam under the theme, “Enhancing our win-win bilateral partnership”.

“UIA will take the opportunity presented by the 2nd Uganda-Tanzania business forum to promote key opportunities in agro value addition, manufacturing, mineral value addition for oil and gas, and tourism,” he stated.

He also said as an agency focused on both foreign and domestic investment promotion, UIA is glad that the Uganda High Commission in Dar es Salaam is convening this trade and investment forum.

“Tanzania investors are classified as domestic investors, who are entitled to 10 years tax holiday, access to land in Uganda’s gazetted industrial parks supported by infrastructure such as water, roads and electricity,” he added.

Laura Kahuga, the foreign service officer at the Ministry of foreign affairs in Kampala, said as they navigate the complexities of the global economy, the objective of this forum remains steadfast to attract investments between Uganda and Tanzania for sustainable and inclusive growth, industrialization, and job creation

“We have set our sights on even greater achievements by prioritizing and highlighting opportunities in six sectors, that is, agribusiness to manufacturing, tourism to energy, oil and gas, among others. The potential for collaboration in these sectors knows no bounds,” she said on behalf of Uganda’s High Commission in Dar es Salaam.
