Police in Kikuube district are investigating circumstances under which three people died on the spot in two separate road crashes in Kikuube district.

The deceased are Nyansio Twinomujuni, a 38-year-old resident of Kibaale village in Butole parish; Walen Bahati, a 26-year-old resident of the same village; Ethien Munyeshuli, 35, from Kyarushesha in Kyangwali sub-county and Kenneth, a sugarcane cutter in Kiswaza in Kiziranfumbi sub-county.

The accident which claimed three lives occurred along Hohwa-Nyairongo-Kyarushesha Hoima-Butole road on Sunday at around 10:00 pm.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Police region spokesperson, on Monday, said. At the same time, in his office in Hoima City, the crash occurred after a Toyota Wish (UBJ 774H) had a head-on collision with a motorcycle registration number UFW 809U Bajaj.

Hakiza said the deceased, Nyansio, who was driving a vehicle coming from Butole side to Hoima violated traffic rules and knocked down the cyclist who was coming from the opposite road.

He noted that both the occupant of the vehicle and the rider of the motorcycle died on the spot after the vehicle veered off the road and overturned several times.

He added that the bodies of the two occupants of the vehicle were given to the relatives for burial. In contrast, the body of the motorcycle rider was conveyed at Kikuube Health Center IV pending identification.

Tractor driver being hunted

In a related development, Police in Kikuube district are hunting for Elijah Wobusobozi, a driver attached to Hioma Sugar Ltd for allegedly causing a crash that claimed the life of Kenneth, a sugarcane cutter.

Hakiza revealed that the crash happened on Saturday at about 5:30 pm on Kiswaza Road in Kiswaza village involving a tractor Mahindra with registration number UBN 755Q.

Hakiza said the driver was speeding and the tractor overturned, hence killing Kenneth instantly. The body of the deceased was taken to Kikuube Health Centre IV pending proper identification and postmortem.

He added that after the crash, the driver fled the scene, and efforts to apprehend him were on.

Hakiiza expressed concern over the increasing number of accidents in the region and blamed the accidents on a lack of respect for traffic rules and rankless driving.

The crashes happened just a day after three people perished in road crashes in Hoima city and Kikuube district. The deceased are Onan Tasobya, a resident of Musijjamukulu in Buhimba sub-county, Kikuube district; Eric Asiku a resident of Muziranduru village in Kiziranfumbi sub-county, Kikuube and Faustino Nyai, a resident of Hoima city and employee of Bwendero Dairy Farm.
