Lango Paramount Chief-elect lauds Vision Group's service to sub-region

KAMPALA - Won Nyaci Eng. Dr Michael Moses Odongo, the Lango Paramount Chief-elect has commended the Vision Group for its outstanding contribution to the development of the Lango sub-region.
The Nyaci-elect who arrived at the Vision Group head office shortly before midday accompanied by several Lango cultural institution clan chiefs and Parliamentarians who hail from the Lango sub-region, was received by the deputy chief executive officer/managing director of Vision Group, Gervase Ndyanabo.

His entourage included the Government Chief Whip, Hamson Obua, the chairperson Lango Parliamentary Caucus, Judith Alyek, Maxwell Akora, MP Maruzi County, Dr Agnes Atim, the first princess, Shauna Odongo, Alex Anganya, the deputy registry general at the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), Dr Alex Ario, and head of Uganda National Institute of Public Health of the Health Ministry, among others.
“We want to thank the staff you have been deploying for us in Lango who have done credible work. Our disappointment has been that Rupiny Newspaper is resting, but you restore it because the very people at the grassroots that is their primary source of printed New in Acholi sub-region,” Odongo said adding that it used to among others aid the education of children through Pass PLE and other education pullout on top of helping farmers with farming tips and opportunities.

“It is an honour and a pleasure to host you here,” Wanyama said adding; “In our areas of operation we ensure to work with the cultural institutions because we understand the importance of cultural institutions in not only uniting people but also in the fight against immoral values.”
Wanyama who explained the circumstances that led to the indefinite suspension of some vernacular newspapers including Rupiny, highlighted that they were critical in the promotion of culture and languages as he expressed hope of them being restored.

“It is important for us as the media to promote and preserve our cultural values and languages. It's something so dear to us,” he said.
He said that Vision Group is already working with kingdoms such as the Kingdom of Buganda in areas of cooperation including the Kabaka Birthday Run among others.
Wanyama committed Vision Group support to the enthronement and appointed two people from Vision Group to work with the organising committee and help in the coordination.
Odongo was elected on March 1, 2024, as the new paramount chief. The reigning paramount chief, Chief Yosam Odur Ebii aged 94, has since been served a notice of abdication effective November 1, 2024, according to Akora who is deputising Obua, the chairperson coronation organising committee.
The new paramount chief will be enthroned on November 2, 2024. The cultural institution is looking for over sh2.8b for the enthronement event.
