Bloggers unite for football tournament in memory of Olaxess

A number of bloggers  have united to educate the public about proper use of the internet without infringing on the rights of others, claiming that this might have been the cause of vlogger Isma Olaxess' murder. 

Olaxess aka Jajja Iculi was gunned down on May 6, 2023 on the way to his home in Kyanja, a city suburb. His driver survived.

During a press conference on May 1, the bloggers such as Tamale Mirundi Junior, Jacob Omutuze and media personality Miles Rwamiti gathered at City Oil gardens in Kamwokya, a city suburb, to plan for a football tournament in memory of Olaxess.

Olaxess loved football so much that even on the day he was shot dead, he was from watching a match. 

Tamale Junior said they will remember 2023 as a year of agony following the death of their colleague.

"We are here to honour our friend who passed on and it is going to be done by having a tournament with different media houses, bloggers e.t.c in the memory of Isma because he loved football so much;" he said.

Tamale Junior urged internet users to be keen about what they post on their social media platforms, saying it may cause emotional damage to others.

He cited the example of TikToker Ibrahim Musana aka Pressure 24/7, who was recently arrested over allegations of insulting the Kabaka of Buganda and President Yoweri Museveni.

In an earlier statement, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga warned the public about allegations that Olaxess' shooting could have stemmed from his social media comments. 

According to Enanga, the Police secured a order authorising them to retrieve a printout of the person behind the call that interfered with Olaxess'  travel to Munyonyo, his final destination.

"Isma received a call and asked the driver to park aside because the person calling told him to wait aside (at aroundabout). They waited for the person who called, but he didn't show up and  they drove on to his home," Enanga said.
