Absa donates to vulnerable teenage mothers

TEENAGE | MOTHERS | ABSA

WAKISO - Recently, the banker’s Women Network Forum (WNF) staff members of Absa visited the Wakisa Ministries teenage crisis pregnancy centre based in Wakiso district and handed over 25 laptops that will enable the girls to sign up and benefit from the bank’s ready-to-work programme. 

The program will help them develop Work, People, Money and Entrepreneurial skills. 

In addition, the team donated food and clothing items, gardening tools such as hoes, gum boots, and tree and fruit seedlings.

“Thank you for thinking about Wakisa Ministries and today has been a time for the girls to learn some livelihood skills,” Kityo said.

 She further noted that the donation of items is timely because they needed them. 

About Wakisa Ministries

Wakisa Ministries' teenage crisis pregnancy centre is a charity agency that has been in existence for the last 16 years. 

The centre helps young girls from the age bracket of 12 to 18 and specifically those with pregnancies below six months. 

Since its establishment, the centre has impacted lives of over 1900 teenage mothers in the last 16 years. 

Irene Mutyaba, Absa’s Corporate Banking Director, applauded the centre for its commitment to caring for young mothers.

Chloe Kermu, the chair of the Women Network Forum noted that this is a launch of what absa plans to do in the communities that they serve. 

Kermu said they have kicked off in the central region in Wakiso district at Wakisa Ministries.
