BSK wins USF Inter-Secondary Schools Swimming Gala

The British School of Kampala (BSK) Rafters amassed 1338.50 points to win the USF Inter-Secondary School Swimming Gala held at the Greenhill Academy Pool, Kibuli on Saturday.

BSK was inspired to the championship by their girls' team, which included the likes of Abigail Mwagale, Paula Nabukeera, Sanford, Charlotte, and Blessing Kaitesi who dominated most of the races over the short course.

Mwagale in particular won the 100m freestyle in a personal best of 1:07.67, beating Greenhill’s Sonia Mwere and Aga Khan’s Theresa Kikambi, who clocked 1:07.67 and 1:10.74, respectively.

She continued her dominance in the 100m breaststroke, where she made 1:26.85 in the 13–14-year-old category, beating Aga Khan’s Aleena Katemba and Seroma Christian High School’s Karen Mwangi to the gold by 4.40 and 9.75 seconds, respectively.

It was only in the 50m butterfly were Seroma Christian High School’s Karen Mwangi (34.00) checked BSK Rafter's swimmers Nabukeera and Mwagale, who finished second and third in 34.24 and 34.38, respectively.

BSK’s Sanford, Charlotte, also notched several golds in the 17 and over category, including in the 100m freestyle, where her 1:06.69 was better than Greenhill’s Karla Mugisha and Swagiah Mubiru’s 1:07.75 and 1:11.85, respectively.

Sanford beat the same opponents in the 50m and 100m backstroke as well as in the 100m breaststroke and 50 butterfly races.

Nabukeera and Kaitesi also made a 1-2 in the 50m backstroke, relegating Greenhill’s Sonia Mwere to bronze.

There were also some impressive performances from Lubiri SS’s Rahmah Nakasule in the 15-16 years’ category after she beat Aga Khan’s Husnah Kukundakwe and Acorns International School’s Glory Upendo in the 100m breast as well as Karimah Katemba in the 100m freestyle races.

She also took gold in the 100m back, 50m fly and 50m backstroke races.

Seroma High School topped the boys’ category with 650.50 points, edging Aga Khan who managed 650, and BSK who got 559.50 points.

Their top performers included Raphael Muwanguzi, who won the 100m freestyle race in a personal best of 1:23.94, beating BSK’s Myron Rukundo and Seeta Green Campus’ Gad Matovu to the gold by 1.12 and 2.41 seconds, respectively.

Their other standouts included Kyle Lugonjo, who picked silver in the 50m fly won by Lubiri SS’s Akram Lubega in 29.18 whereas Kings College Budo’s Thembo, Schwarzkoff picked bronze in 30.70, in the event that attracted 26 secondary schools.
