As the East Africa Netball Club Championships draw nearer, Prisons has appointed goal shooter Christine Namulumba as their team captain, replacing Stella Nanfuka. Her bosses have full confidence in her ability to excel in this leadership role.

Recognizing the pivotal role that goal shooters play in securing victories for their teams, Namulumba shoulders the responsibility of guiding her team to triumph. With Prisons eyeing their fourth title, having clinched their last victory in 2018, Namulumba steps into a crucial leadership role.

"We are fully prepared for the East Africa Netball Championships. Our unity as a team is unwavering, and our coaches have equipped us with the necessary skills to claim the championship," Namulumba asserted.

Namulumba expressed her anticipation of clinching her first East Africa title with Prisons as captain, eagerly aiming for success in the upcoming championship.

Imelda Nyongesa, Prisons' technical director, highlights Namulumba's standout performance both on and off the court. Discipline and interpersonal relations were key factors in her selection as captain.

"Namulumba epitomizes teamwork. Her on-court leadership is exceptional, joined by her approachable demeanor. She embodies the qualities any coach or club would cherish. I am confident that during her captaincy, she will achieve significant milestones both at the club and individual levels," Nyongesa affirmed.

Despite Prisons' readiness, their toughest challenge comes from last year's defending champions, NIC. In the 2023 East Africa Netball Championships, Prisons finished second after succumbing to NIC with a score of 49:37 in Nairobi, Kenya.

NIC holds the record for the most number of East Africa titles, boasting 21, while Prisons has secured four titles.

At the 2024 East Africa Netball Club Championships, three clubs will represent Uganda: NIC and Prisons on the female side, while WOB stands as the sole male representative.

The East Africa Netball Club Championships are set to take place from May 12 to 21 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
