Members of the Catholic religious congregation of the Holy Spirit are in a jovial mood following the priestly ordination of two of its confreres.

The youthful clerics, Rev Fr Bernard Nsubuga and Rev Fr Anthony Yiga were ordained by the Archbishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kampala, the Most Rev Paul Ssemogerere during a colorful function at Mulago Catholic parish church, Kawempe Division on Sunday (May 19, 2024).

Delivering his homily during the ordination mass, Archbishop Ssemogerere paid tribute to the Holy Ghost Fathers (also called Spiritan Fathers) for their dynamic presence and contribution to the Church in Uganda and elsewhere in the world.

He thanked the congregation’s leaders for training good priests, who he said are much needed in the Church even more than ever. He thanked the newly-ordained priests for accepting the call of God to ministerial priesthood.

He asked them to be true to the ministry, and also, to be prayerful in order to prevail over the temptations of the world. He later thanked the parents for bringing up well the two youthful priests and also allowing them to become priests.

The Superior of the Spiritan Fathers in Uganda, the Very Rev Fr Dr John Bosco Kamoga thanked Archbishop Ssemogerere and his venerable predecessors for working harmoniously with the Spiritan congregation since its advent in Uganda, 41 years ago.

As one of the highlights of the function, the Spiritan Fathers led by their Superior (Fr Kamoga) gathered around the altar and performed a moving ritual of sending off the newly-ordained priests to their respective foreign mission. Archbishop Ssemogerere then handed them the symbols of their missionary work; a crucifix, a Holy Book, a Rosary, and, a candle.

Rev Fr Bernard Nsubuga has been appointed to Ethiopia. His colleague Fr Anthony Yiga has been assigned to Cape Verde. Fr Kamoga gave the two priests their letter of appointment.

Both Fr Nsubuga and Fr Yiga hail from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Masaka.
