A higher price for grains remains the biggest challenge among grain producers and buyers when it comes to the grain business.
This is because most grain markets are neither well structured nor regulated for a sustained market.
Therefore, many maize producers miss out on strategic partnerships, access to capital, which leads to improved livelihoods.
That is why the Grain Council, in partnership with the International Trade Centre, has organised The Meet the Buyer Symposium 2025 to highlight the regulatory frameworks, such as the need for certification in the maize value chain, food and nutrition safety, access to markets as a potential crop for increased incomes and livelihoods.
The symposium that will be held under the theme: Making Maize Markets Work, is scheduled for July 30, 2025, in Kampala city to bring together large-scale producers, buyers, suppliers of grain and regulators, including the Uganda National Bureau of Standards, the ministries of trade, agriculture and finance. The Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority and the Prime Minister's office are also expected to attend the event.
According to the Grain Council of Uganda, the meeting is expected to also discuss the challenges of grains, particularly the maize value chain, certification requirements and seals for grain traders, among others.
They will also discuss linkages between quality maize sellers and buyers, iron out and address challenges that still exist and prevent structured markets of maize grain, among others.
