Ephraim Biraaro: Know your Member of Parliament

Ephraim Biraaro, MP Buhweju West was born on January 28, 1961 to Asanasio Ganshanga and Yayeri Kitengire Ganshanga of Kikamba village, Nyakahita parish in Rubengye sub-county, Buhweju district.

He attended Church School at Nyakashaka in 1969, then Nyakitoko Primary School where he sat for the primary leaving examinations in 1979.

Ganshanga Joined Burere SS in 1980 and later switched to Nganwa High School where he sat his O’level exams in 1983.

Between 1984 and 1986, he was at Masaka Secondary School for A’level because in 1985 the war disrupted school life.

It only returned to normal in 1986 when the National Resistance Army took over.

After A’level, he joined the Institute of Accountants and Commerce Kampala up to the intermediary level in 1987.

Between 1988 and 1991 he worked as a licensed teacher.

Between 1994 and 1998, he enrolled for and got diplomas in different management-related courses in the UK and other certificates from MTAC, UMI, ACCLAIM AFRICA, KERICHO Research Centre, NANDI Co-Operative Academy and Kasunga Tea Training Centre.

In 2004, he joined Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi for a bachelor’s degree in business.

In 2008, he got a master’s in business administration.  From 2002 to 2010, he served as Bushenyi district councillor for Burere.

Between 2010 and 2011, he served as Buhweju district vice-chairperson.

In 2011, he joined Parliament representing Buhweju. He lost the seat in 2016, but contested and won again in 2021.

Biraaro grows tea, coffee, bananas, apples and trees.
