The Federation of motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) deputy vice-president, Reynold Kibira has urged the organisers of the SMC rally due August 5 to 7 in Masaka to observe safety.

Kibira appealed at the launch of the event on Tuesday in Kabusu.

"Masaka is a highly populated district and we want you to observe safety because we want safe rallies," Kibiria said.

Meanwhile, Ponsiano Lwakataka heads to Masaka  targeting a win in the  SMC Bwera rally to boost his chances of winning the National rally championship.

Lwakataka popularly known as Mafu-Mafu has won the previous two editions of the SMC rally except the 2021 edition held in Sembabule which was won by Duncan Mubiru.

Lwakataka leads the NRC standings with 262 points, 84 points ahead of Umaru Dauda who won the Fort Portal Rally. Dauda has also set sights on a win.

However, Lwakataka is confident he is the only bull in the Greater Masaka region, and the challengers should work harder to beat him.

“In Fortportal, our car developed engine failure after the first stage. We are working on it, and we are going to Masaka for a win,” Lwakataka noted after the launch of the event which is the fifth round of the National rally championship.

The crews will battle it out in three stages Maria flo Stage (13.17km), SMK Tyres (17.65km) s, and then the Kako super special stage (5km).

On one day, the racers will head to the JKL stage in the stages of Kyaabi (28.5kms, Hajji Abasi Mayinja stage in the areas of Lugusulu (18.3km to be repeated and end the rally with Hajji Gombe stage which is 21.75kms.
