A second bus has crashed into a stationary trailer in less than 24 hours after a Link Bus suffered a similar fate.

On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, on the Kampala-Gulu highway at Wakisanyi in kiryandongo district, a Crown Coaches bus rammed into a broken-down vehicle.

"M/V UAQ 409D Isuzu bus belonging to Crown Coaches bus company crashed into the M/V UAN 902 Mitsubishi Fuso on Wednesday afternoon, which led to one casualty who sustained severe injuries," police traffic road safety communications officer Micheal Kananura said in a report.

According to the report, the preliminary investigations suggest that the causes of this crash were reckless driving and road obstruction due to a broken-down vehicle.

Kananura mentioned that the unidentified passenger who was seated in the front was immediately taken to Kiryandongo Hospital for medical treatment.

The crash follows a similar one that occurred on Tuesday night claiming the life of Link Bus driver Dauda Kawawu, who rammed into a stationary truck at Mukunyu in Kyenjojo district on the Kampala-Fortportal highway.

Recent Police reports indicate that this was the third accident that involved vehicles and stationary trucks and loss of lives.

On Thursday, businessman Apollo Nyegamehe aka Aponye died when his Toyota Landcruiser rammed into a stationary truck on the Ntungamo-Mbarara highway in Itojo.

Similarly, on Saturday, former Erute North Member of Parliament also died alongside four others after the vehicle he was travelling in overturned at Ayago in Murchison falls National Game Park as they reportedly tried to dodge ramming into a stationary truck.

Police directives

  • Police urge that all drivers must ensure that reflectors are placed both in front and behind broken-down motor vehicles to alert other road users.
  • Drivers or caretakers of broken-down vehicles must immediately inform the Police for assistance in off-loading goods and towing the vehicles away from the roads.
  • All drivers are reminded to adhere to speed limits and exercise vigilance, especially at night when poor visibility increases the risk of accidents.
  • Members of the public and other road users are urged to notify the local police if the driver or caretaker fails to report a broken-down vehicle. Road safety is a collective responsibility
