Lately, for any filmmaker, landing an opportunity to have their works stream on Netflix is more like hitting a jackpot.

A grand achievement. Luckily, for the very first time, a Ugandan filmmaker has achieved this.

Loukman Ali woke up Friday morning (November 12) to news that his film The Girl in the Yellow Jumper will be showing on Netflix starting next week.

Upon receipt of the news, Ali took to social media to express his delight.

"Can't believe this is going to be the first Ugandan movie on Netflix. My first film is the first Ugandan film on Netflix. I can officially call myself a professional filmmaker!"

The film starring Maurice Kirya, Micheal Wawuyo Jr. and Gladys Oyenbot was scheduled to be premiered in April 2020, only to be blocked by the emergence of COVID-19 pandemic.

Since then, it felt like the film had succumbed to the pandemic, despite its trailer causing a lot of buzz and anticipation.

Shortly thereafter, Ali released another film titled 16 Rounds, which would later leave those who watched its YouTube premiere in awe.

As luck would have it, The Girl in The Yellow Jumper has returned with one of the most prestigious achievements in Uganda's film industry.

The film's trailer has already been uploaded onto Netflix and is already causing excitement on social media.

With what Netflix has already done with productions like Squid Game, who knows how far our own films can go, now that a door has been opened!
