UNRA director Moses Kasakya elected Institute of Internal Auditors president

Moses Kasakya, the director of Internal Audit at Uganda Nation Roads Authority (UNRA) has been elected the president of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Uganda.

In his acceptance Speech, Kasakya appreciated the members who elected him and his committee. He applauded the founders of IIA Uganda for laying a firm foundation for the organisation. 

He also thanked the outgoing president, Hussein Isingoma for successfully steering the institute mainly in challenging times of Covid 19 Pandemic. 

Kasakya promised to strategically enhance the brand value and growth of IIA Uganda. 

"I promise to provide opportunities to the members for them to become influencers for reforms, transformation, and growth in their respective organizations," he said.

He promised to establish teams of experts ready to help willing organisations improve their processes of governance, risk management, Internal Controls, and Compliance.

"I acknowledged the great role of stakeholders and partners play in the success of IIA Uganda and promise to identify more partners and work closely with them," he said.

Kasakya shall work with a team of 10 directors that includes Ms. Ruth Mutebe the Senior Vice President, Doreen Nseka the Vice President of Membership Affairs; Ms. Alice Nyangoma, the Vice President of Development, Mr. Daniel Nangalama the Treasurer and Mr. Ronald Kirungi the Secretary.

The IIA Uganda was formed over 20 years ago in 2002 by Internal Audit practitioners then headed by Mr Gervase Ndyanabo, currently the Deputy Managing Director of the New Vision. 

It was first registered as an Association and thereafter incorporated as a Company limited by guarantee in 2008. Its head office is currently at Plot 49 Ntinda Road. 

IIIA currently has 942 members and in the last three years, it has had an average increase rate of 100 members per year. 

The IIA Uganda is governed by the Board of Directors elected every 2 years.

On  6th June 2023, the Members of IIA Uganda elected Mr. Moses Kasakya as their new President for 2023 to 2025.

Upon graduating from Makerere University with a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) Degree, Kasakya has had a very progressive career. 

He is currently the Director of Internal Audit with UNRA. 

Before joining UNRA, he served Umeme Ltd as the Integrity & Asset Security Manager. 

He served Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) in various capacities as Tax Auditor, Tax Administrator, Tax Trainer, and Internal Auditor and ended his tenure in URA as the Manager of Compliance and Integrity enhancement during the major restructuring in 2005 that transformed URA into an ethical, professional performing entity. 

Kasakya started his career as an Accounts Assistant with Kyagalanyi Coffee Ltd. He offers Board & Consultancy services to various entities
Kasakya is a Maxwell Leadership Certified team member.

 He is a certified Trainer & Coach. He earned the award of the MBA from Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University. 

He is a Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA) of the UK, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Uganda, and a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) in the USA.

Kasakya is a Certified Maxwell Leadership Team Member.

He is a certified Trainer & Coach. He has Specialized Training in Strategic Planning and Management (Balanced Scorecard Model.) from George Washington University & BSC Institute and is a Certified Risk Management Professional (ISO 31000). 

Kasakya is a Certified Trainer of The Institute of Internal Auditors and has vast experience in Accounting, Taxation, and GRC functions.
