St John Fisher Ibanda SS has been named the host of this year’s edition of USSSA boys’ football and basketball for Ankole Zone starting April 4 to 14.

The Ibanda district-based school will become the first side to host both boys' and girls' football national qualifiers in the history of the USSSA Ankole Zone.

Egidio Mucunguzi, the zonal chairman confirmed Ibanda saying the side had sent in a strong bid supported by better hosting facilities than the rest of the bidders.

“The 2024 Ankole Zone ball Games 1(Boys' football) and Girls' football, basketball will be held in Ibanda district and Ibanda S.S and this comes after thorough technical and executive committee findings that the host emerged the best for the two events,” Said part of Mucunguzi’s communication.

The school head teacher, Bro. Charles Agaba expressed happiness after winning the bid and showed optimism that they would provide the needed comfort for the success of the competitions.

“We are happy to have been allowed to host yet again, secondary school games of this magnitude and we are ready and will offer the best hosting for the success of the games. It is not the first time we are hosting games of this kind as we are from successfully hosting national La Mennais games here,” Bro Agaba said.

St John Fisher Ibanda SS is one of the 10 schools in the country under the foundation of Brothers of Christian Instruction and just like they successfully hosted the boys and girls football, volleyball, and mind games competitions under the same umbrella last year, so Bro Agaba believes they will, with the USSSA Ankole zonal games.

The school boasts of an all-weather basketball court and a standard football pitch, all within the school premises and the FUFA Big League side Kaaro Karungi FC home ground St George’s Arena alongside the adjacent St George Core PTC grounds are added advantage.

St. John Fisher Ibanda will also be assisted by St. George's CORE PTC Ibanda to provide accommodation for the athletes and officials.

According to the program released, the girls' Zonal football competitions will be held between 4th-7th April 2024, while the boys' soccer competition will be between 11th-14th April.
