The general security situation in the Kampala Metropolitan Area remains calm, according to Police.

A joint security team comprising the Police, Military Police, and army is deployed to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of the business community.

Local leaders report that the joint security team is actively engaged in providing security to traders who wish to open their businesses, while also safeguarding closed establishments to prevent any opportunistic criminal activity.

Preliminary Police findings indicate that the traders had initially called for a peaceful demonstration, but there are concerns that it could escalate into violence, with reports indicating plans to burn tires in the middle of the roads.

Early Wednesday, reported at Central Police Station Kampala, an isolated incident of incitement to violence.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, confirmed that eight suspects have been arrested and detained, with charges of incitement to violence pending against them.

Among the arrested individuals are prominent figures such as Moreen Kimani Nakirya, the Secretary General of the Federation of Uganda Trader’s Association, and Fred Ssembajwe, the Coordinator of youth affairs for skilling and training.

According to Onyango, the other suspects, including Emmanuel Mukisa and Jean Ndayambale, Midu Ntabi, Emma Jabez, Wilso Kukiriza and Moses Nsubuga Lwangmiyo have been interviewed, and their statements are on record.

Additionally, exhibits of tires recovered from the scene have been exhibited as evidence, according to Onyango.
