Six motorists are still nursing injuries sustained in a crash on the Kampala-Jinja Highway, at approximately 3:30 pm (April 30th, 2024) in Bweyogerere, Waksio district.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango on May 1, 2024, said the collision involved several vehicles and motorcycles, resulting in significant damage and injuries.

The vehicles involved in the crash include a white Toyota Hiace with registration number UAX 871P, two white Howo trucks with registration numbers UBK 849U and UBK 852U and three red Bajaj Boxer motorcycles with registration numbers UGA 215N, UFU 127E, and UES 492A.

According to eyewitness accounts, the Toyota Hiace, driven by an unidentified individual, was exiting Africa Oil petrol station when it lost control and collided with three motorcycles, trapping them between the vehicle and a stationary trailer.

According to Onyango, the trailer was identified as belonging to Jinja city-based businessman Moses Kaama, 50.

“The primary cause of the accident is suspected to be reckless driving by the unidentified driver of the Toyota Hiace,” Onyango said.

The injured victims were promptly transported to nearby health centers for medical attention.

He said all vehicles and motorcycles involved in the crash were towed to the Bweyogerere Police parking yard for further inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (IOV), adding that, Police inquiries are ongoing to determine the full extent of the incident and establish accountability.
