The Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robina Nabbanja, will be the chief guest at the official unveiling of CHINT Uganda, a subsidiary of CHINT Global — a world leader in smart energy solutions and electrical manufacturing.

The event is set for tomorrow (Saturday, August 16), at the company’s Industrial Area centre.

The announcement was made by Minister of State for Finance in charge of Investment and Privatisation, Evelyn Anite, during a press briefing on Thursday, August 14.

She commended CHINT Uganda for advancing the Buy Uganda, Build Uganda (BUBU) policy and contributing to the country’s industrial growth.

“They are known for their electric energy meter factory — one of the first in Uganda — and for offering a wide range of lighting solutions, including profile lights, chandeliers, and street lights. CHINT Uganda also provides power tools and other electrical products, delivering comprehensive solutions for both domestic and industrial needs,” Anite said.

She noted that through partnerships with dealers across the country, CHINT is expanding access to quality electrical products while creating significant employment.

This will reduce on importing home appliances, where the country spends over shs10.7b ($3 million).

“From Arua to Kampala, CHINT is creating thousands of jobs along the value chain — from sales to engineering and installation,” she emphasised.

Anite highlighted Uganda’s 2.4 million-unit housing deficit, with 900,000 in unfit conditions, adding that CHINT’s innovations in solar lighting and electric vehicle charging align with national infrastructure goals.

“Imagine having a personal EV charging facility right at your home — CHINT is making that possible,” she said.

Harry Mugisha, the Marketing Manager at CHINT Uganda, says the company is positioning itself as a key driver of Uganda’s real estate and infrastructure development by offering locally manufactured smart energy solutions that support housing, sustainability, and industrial growth.

Speaking ahead of the company’s official unveiling, Mugisha noted that Uganda’s housing deficit stands at 2.4 million units, with demand expected to rise as the population grows.

“CHINT’s energy solutions feed directly into the real estate value chain. As housing demand increases, the need for sustainable and reliable energy will also grow,” he said.

Mugisha emphasised that CHINT goes beyond business through community partnerships such as sponsoring KCCA FC and NEC FC, contributing to sports, entertainment, and job creation.

With a dealer network stretching from Arua to Mbarara, Soroti to Karamoja, CHINT has created over 500 direct jobs and thousands more indirectly. Its locally made home appliances, solar solutions, and electrical products are reducing Uganda’s $3 million annual import bill for such goods.

“We’re making quality, unique, and affordable products here in Uganda, cutting long import delays,” Mugisha said, adding that CHINT’s mission is to light homes, power industries, and build a self-reliant nation.
