Glorious things have been spoken of Prince Dr. Paul Mawanda Kyabaggu, the seasoned social entrepreneur, investor, Rotarian and philanthropist who died on Saturday (September 20), aged 79.
The tributes were delivered during the a requiem mass at Rubaga Cathedral in Kampala on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.
Delivering his homily during mass, Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Dr Augustine Kasujja said of Dr Kyabaggu.
“The Catholic Church has lost one of her most prominent members. He was very strong in his faith. He served as the head of the laity of Rubaga Cathedral parish. He was also a very useful citizen of our country. His educational initiatives benefited many of our children and youths. Let’s honour his legacy by emulating his practical faith and good will for others.”

Kampala Catholic Archdiocese vicar-general Msgr. Rogers Kabuye and Chancellor Fr. Dr Pius Male also paid tribute to Kyabaggu for his love and devotion to the Church.
Dr Peter Kyabaggu lauded his dad for his commitment to the family.

“Dad has educated us. He has taught us morals. He has shown us how we can go through this harsh world. He was extremely generous to all people. He had sympathy for needy children. Actually, 40% of the students in his school are on a charitable scholarship! He was a workaholic. Even when he was in ICU, in hospital, he was ever on his phone checking on his projects, requiring how things were moving! At one time, we had to hide the phone from him. We shall honour him by carrying on his establishments,” Kyabaggu testified.

Kyabaggu was also praised by his wife, Omuzaana Margaret Kyabaggu, who spoke highly of his tender love, marital faithfulness and deep commitment to humanity.
Deputy speaker of Buganda Lukiiko Ahmed Lwasa praised Kyabaggu for his great love and commitment to the Kabaka, the kingdom and its activities.

The requiem mass attracted hundreds of mourners, including Buganda Kingdom royals: Nabagereka Sylvia Nagginda, Princess Lubuga Nabaloga, Princess Sarah Kagere and her husband Bbaale Mugera, the former deputy Katikkiro Joseph Mulwanyammuli Ssemwogerere, former Katikkiro Eng. John Baptist Walusimbi and former Deputy Katikkiro Emmanuel Ssendawula.

Central government dignitaries, including the former vice-president Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, former finance minister Gerald Ssendawula and Gen. Elly Kayanja, also graced the requiem mass.
Brief fact file
Kyabaggu was born in Kannabulemu, Kyebe sub-county in Kyotera district on April 5, 1946, to Joseph Lugwana and Digond Nassejje.
He married Margaret Kyabaggu in 1984.

Kyabaggu has made an enormous contribution to the business sector. He was one of the founders/proprietors of various companies, including Bukoola Chemical Industries Limited (Uganda and Tanzania), Royale Property Consultants Ltd, Crete Block Technology Ltd, MPK Ranchers, BCI Pharmaceuticals Ltd, St Joseph of Nazareth High School (Katende-Kavule) and several real estate establishments around East Africa.
Kyabaggu is survived by children and grandchildren. He will be laid to rest it his ancestral burial home at Kannabulemu, Kyotera district today (Friday, September 26).
The funeral mass will start at 10:00am.
