The Embassy of Japan has commissioned two new classroom blocks at Ediofe Girls Primary School.

The fully-furnished classroom and latrine blocks were commissioned on Thursday in Ayivu Division, Arua City.

In addition to the classroom blocks and two VIP stances of latrines, the embassy also provided 296 desks, worth sh314 million.

They were commissioned by Fukuzawa Hidemoto, the ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Uganda.

The newly constructed block connected to a water harvesting tank at Ediofe Girls Primary School.

Hedimoto said the support is part of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), a scheme administered by the Embassy of Japan to fund community development projects, which uplift the lives of people.

The headteacher of the school, Sister Rosemary Akello, was overjoyed.

She said the classroom blocks will help address decongestion at the school which has over 2,300 pupils.

She said they now need help to build a dormitory and multipurpose hall.

“This will help decongest the classrooms which were really overcrowded but I still have another challenge to raise to the embassy...  Ediofe is the only boarding girls primary school in the region with a section for the blind and that means that facilities we have are still not enough."

She said they need a library, dormitory for the girls and multipurpose hall.
