KAMPALA – The fourth edition of Makerere University Endowment Fund Run 2024 (MAK-RUN) is slated for August 18, 2024.

The University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe has said, adding that this year’s, also the fourth edition, will be held under the theme, ‘Run for Students with Disabilities’.

Nawangwe remarked Tuesday (April 23, 2024) as the youth and children affairs state minister Balaam Barugahara launched the event at Freedom Square, Makerere University.

The Run is open to the public, and participants can donate or support the cause by purchasing running kits at shillings 20,000.

“Let us demonstrate our solidarity with students living with disabilities by purchasing kits and contributing to their well-being and academic success,” Minister Barugahara said.

He also thanked the Minister of Education and Sports, also the First Lady, Janet Kataha Museveni, for advancing the growth of Makerere University, and promised to engage Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja and other ministers to support the cause.

Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor Nawangwe said this year's proceeds will facilitate the construction of a student center that will cater to Students with disabilities, adding, “We must ensure that our university is inclusive and supportive of all students, regardless of their abilities.”

About MAK-RUN

Officially inaugurated and flagged off in 2018, Mak-Run is organized to bring together a wider participation of the University’s stakeholders, in a marathon of 21 Kilometers through the great hills of Kampala to celebrate Makerere at 100 through sports.

The Centenary Run is coordinated between the Makerere At 100 secretariat, and the Makerere Endowment Fund, and the annual event assists the University in raising financial resources to support the different development projects that improve the University experience, including facilitating the construction of a student center.
