Singer Ykee Benda, a director at Golden High School Nsagu in Kajjansi on Entebbe Road, revealed during a parliamentary engagement on Tuesday, May 7, with Speaker Anita Among, that they had named a girls' dormitory after her.

The singer, real name Wycliff Tugume, along with his co-director James Ssenyonga, expressed admiration for the Speaker's dedication to empowering girls, particularly in her district of Bukedea. They felt it befitting to honour her by naming the dormitory after her.

“We recognise the Speaker's remarkable contributions to the girl-child, especially in Bukedea, and we wanted her to be a patron of our project. Naming our dormitory after her is a small token of our appreciation, and we are grateful that she has accepted to inaugurate it. This demonstrates true leadership, and we commend her for it,” Ykee Benda, who is also a chemical engineer, said.

He highlighted the school's commitment to providing an integrated creative and performing arts curriculum, as well as offering bursaries to disadvantaged students within the community.

The Speaker extended her appreciation to the school team over the gesture.

“I am deeply grateful for the honour of having the dormitory named after me. In a similar spirit of appreciation, supported by the President, I also named my school's library and laboratory after him. Additionally, I have dedicated blocks to MK and Natasha, individuals who have significantly influenced my life,” she expressed.

Among further committed to visit the school to inaugurate the dormitory and to spearhead the construction of a boys' dormitory, engaging with the students during the visit.
