The Police in Bushenyi district are investigating circumstances under which a 33-year-old student of Kampala International University (KIU) Western campus suddenly died in a hostel.

Police identified the deceased as Othieno Isaac, 33, of Kenyan nationality.

The Saturday morning incident happened at Cell D, Ishaka division, Bushenyi-Ishaka municipality, according to Martial Tumusiime, the greater Bushenyi police spokesperson.

He said that the deceased was last seen in the evening hours of May 9, 2024, at his hostel where he had been staying; then he disappeared.

On Friday evening, neighbours started noticing a bad smell coming from his room with flies moving around.

"They (neighbours) alerted the security guard about the same matter, and the security guard alerted the hostel manager, who also reported the matter to Ishaka Police Station," Tumusiime said.

The police's preliminary findings indicate that the deceased had different medicines like pethidine hydrochloride injections, clonazepam drugs, syringes, and medical documentation showing that the deceased had psychiatric disorders and had been on different kinds of treatment.

The body of the deceased had been conveyed to Kampala International University Teaching Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.
