Trinity College Nabbingo old girls sports gala excites stakeholders

This year’s event attracted big crowds of fans who included alumni of various cohorts, students, parents, teachers, friends and well-wishers from solidarity schools and institutions.

The annual sports gala of the Old Girls of Trinity College Nabbingo (TRICONA) has continued to gain popularity.

This year’s event, which took place at the Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT), Nakawa (Nakawa Division, Kampala) on Saturday, August 30, 2025, attracted big crowds of fans who included alumni of various cohorts, students, parents, teachers, friends and well-wishers from solidarity schools and institutions.

The TRICONA old girls, under the umbrella of their former residences/houses (Goretti, Alix, Cecilia, Margaret, Monica, Theresa), competed in games such as netball, volleyball, sack-racing, egg-racing, 3-legged race, tug-of-war, etc. They also competed in Gomesi etiquette and culinary.

The event had another interesting aspect: The inter-schools competition, which attracted schools like Gayaza High School, Nabisunsa Girls School, Mengo Senior School, King’s College Budo, Namilyango College, St Henry’s College Kitovu (SHACK), St Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK), Uganda Martyrs’ SS Namugongo and Kiira College Butiki.

Well, at the end of the day, it was Margaret House that prevailed over its other competitors to lift the trophy of the 3rd Trinity College Nabbingo Old Girls Association (TCNOGA) Sports Gala. Alix House and Theresa House took second and third position, respectively. Goretti House, Monica House and Cecilia House took fourth, fifth, and sixth position, respectively.

Mengo Senior School’s Janine Abahikire prevailed over Gayaza High School’s Susan Namuli and TRICONA’s Noreen Nabiryo in the culinary contest.

Kiira College Butiki also prevailed over Namilyango College to lift the soccer trophy.

The event had a musical climax – the Lingala dance competition between the respective TRICONA houses. Alix won the contest, followed by Goretti, Theresa and Monica House in 2nd, 3rd and 4th position, respectively.

The chairperson of the TRICONA board Fr. Dr Joseph Mary Ssebunnya (the guest of honour), paid tribute to the old girls for the solidarity they exhibited during the gala. He also thanked the participants for their commitment and sportsmanship.

The President the Old Girls, Marie Solome Nassiwa, said the proceeds from the gala would be committed to the proposed Trinity Junior School, a shillings 14 billion project of spearheaded by the TRICONA alumna.

The headteacher of TRICONA, Lady Immaculate Lwanga, added dignity to the function by her physical presence.

As another way of supporting the project, the old girls of various cohorts made financial donations, in cash and pledges. Their friends, well-wishers and partners also made significant donations.
