In a heartfelt gesture of compassion and empowerment, Raphatale Foundation held a community outreach drive in Nansana to support mothers raising children with special needs and disabilities.

The foundation extended essential household items — including diapers, sanitary pads, porridge, sodas, and other necessities — to the women, reaffirming its commitment to uplifting mothers who courageously navigate the unique challenges of caring for their children.

Speaking during the event on Wednesday, Evelyne Tamale Banga, Executive Director of Raphatale Foundation, shared her personal journey — a story that continues to inspire the organization’s mission.

“I had to stop working to care for my child with special needs,” she revealed. “It took a great toll on my family’s finances and my emotional well-being. I realized there were many mothers like me — strong women whose lives are disrupted by circumstances beyond their control. That’s why we founded Raphatale Foundation — to ensure that no mother walks this journey alone.”

The mothers in attendance expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Foundation for recognizing their struggles and restoring their sense of hope and belonging. Many shared how caring for a child with disabilities or special needs often forces them to give up employment, leaving them financially strained and emotionally isolated.

“No one wants to stay with my child while I go to work,” said Saudah Nakazibwe, one of the beneficiaries. “I have to stay home every day, which means I cannot earn a living. Sometimes, it feels like we are forgotten by society.”

According to Grace Serukenya Kimuli, Managing Director of Raphatale Foundation, the organization is determined to create long-term, sustainable solutions for these mothers.

“Our goal is to empower mothers of children with special needs and disabilities to become financially independent,” she said. “We’re developing programs that equip them with digital skills, customer care training, entrepreneurship knowledge, and access to remote work opportunities. We also continue to advocate for inclusive employment policies that recognize and support their realities.”

Beyond the donations, the event was filled with moments of reflection, joy, and togetherness. The mothers shared stories, sang together, and enjoyed refreshments provided by the Foundation. They also participated in an inspiring session where they recollected their childhood dreams — of what they once hoped to become — and were encouraged to dream again
