Not many people will opt for a black pallet in any design project. But Rinita Jain, a flower enthusiast pulled off a stunning outdoors with black planters.

This is in her home which is located along the Middle close lane in Bukoto, a suburb of Kampala. She blended the pots with brown ones which she filled with blooms in different colours.

The scene creates a colourful garden. Some are aligned at the main entrance while others are below the window seal.

Rinita’s planters pull off a perfect mix of concrete pavers, a little dose of ‘carpet’ lawn and ornamental plants that wrap around the house.

Mariah Kiwagama, a landscaper says black planters can look and feel interesting and sophisticated.

“I prefer them for being bold while making a statement. They also make rich hues that are crisp and vibrant,” she says.

However, Maureen Nakabuye an interior designer warns that black pots absorb more heat than lighter colours.

“Much as plants need heat to grow, the black pots will work for plants in cool environments than hot ones,” she explains.

On sunny days, they easily dry out the soil and bake the roots.
