Roofs have evolved from time to time, from grass-thatched roofs to iron sheet roofs and tiled ones.

With many different manufacturing companies dealing in roofing products springing up, and the growing number of trending iron sheet types flooding the market, one may be spoilt for choice as to which brand to purchase.

Jessy Habil, real estate dealer says the iron sheets that are on the market today vary because of their different shapes and qualities. “There are different types of iron sheets with different kinds of texture.

We have the rough texture which is called max and the smooth texture. Customers have a great variety to choose from,” he says. The different kinds of roofing products on the market include the Roman Long tile, Zeetile, Brick Tile, Box Profile and the corrugated roof among others. All these roofing types vary from each other due to their uniqueness, attractive design and shape.

The Roman long tile is a stylish and attractive design product which is easy to install. It has a high heat resistance and a long life span due to its perfectly coated high-grade aluminum.

The Zeetile product is stylish and attractive in design, quick and easy to install, with high heat resistance and a long life span due to its perfectly coated high-grade aluminum, zinc and steel.

The brick tile is also a stylish and attractive design product, produced by a roll forming machine that gives it a traditional roof tile design and easy to install. The brick tile has a high heat resistance and a long life span due to its perfectly coated high grade aluminum, zinc and steel.

According to companies like Uganda Baati Limited, the new trend now is to use colour iron sheets like the Resincot, Covermax and the Versatile.

Durability

The question of how durable the product you are purchasing is always matters in determining the kind of roofing you have. Immaculate Akiror, the marketing communications manager at Uganda Baati Limited, says homeowners should consider iron sheets that do not fade, peel or rust. Also, clients should not mix brands

. For example there are materials that are high heat-resistant, with good sound absorption so that in cases of rainfall, the noise will not disrupt the sound inside the house. Clients should check the manufacturer’s stamp on each iron sheet. Clients also need to check if the iron sheets favour the geographical location they are situated in.

The Colour factor

The preference in colour comes with the aim of giving consumers a variety to choose from. People love colour, and according to the design and paint of the building, choosing from various colours is an added advantage to the consumer.

Akiror says colours do matter when it comes to iron sheets. “They not only give your roof a beautiful and distinctive look, but the pre-paint offers more protection,” she says. There are plenty of colours to choose from, like the reddish-orange colour, maroon, black, green, blue, brown, yellow and grey. Depending on the colour painted on the house walls, choosing the right roof sheet colour should strike some beauty to it.

Cost

Habil says consumers will buy according to what they can afford. He says iron sheets like the IT4 cost sh40,500, the Roman tile costs sh69,000 and Zeetile Gauge costs sh67,000 and above, the brick tile costs sh65,900. According to Wena hardware, prices of different roof sheets vary. For instance Ecotile iron sheets cost sh65,500, the Supertile iron sheets cost sh65,500, while the Versatile iron sheets cost between sh72,000 and sh82,000.
