Ugandan movie Taama by Arthur Nsubuga, which was nominated in the New Vision People's Choice Film Awards 2024, has reached the final stage of the Film Joint Competition in Nigeria, making it to the top ten.

The film, which also won Best Movie in Central Uganda at the recently held Uganda Communications Commission-Regional Competitions, narrates the story of a young man easily influenced by attractive women. He finds himself pursuing a spiritually-possessed lady and  falls in trouble.

Taama emerged from a pool of over 1,000 African films to reach the top 10. The top five selected movies will enjoy exclusive screenings in Nigerian cinemas and participate in movie panel discussions.

Charles Kasozi, the story's writer, expressed optimism about Taama making it to the top 5, highlighting the potential significance for Ugandan filmmakers in the Nigerian film industry. He encouraged Ugandans to remain hopeful for the movie's success.

"This milestone is significant for us as creators. We hope 'Taama' secures a spot in the top 5, which could lead to increased collaboration and hiring of Ugandan talent by Nigeria, as well as attracting attention to Ugandan productions in the African market," Kasozi said.

The cultural relationship between Uganda and Nigeria continues to strengthen, with various collaborations underway. Recently, Nigerian film industry figures such as Ramsey Nouah, Osita Iheme, Chris Odeh, and Nancy Isime visited Uganda for a film event.

During the visit, Odeh launched his book Before You Say Action in Kampala.
