Upon her return to Uganda on September 2, Princess Ruth Komuntale Akiiki, accompanied by her husband Prince Anthony Phil, addressed journalists at a press conference held at King Oyo’s residence in Buziga on September 3.

Her message was clear: rally the masses ahead of this year’s edition of the Ekyooto Ha Mpango Festival, scheduled for September 10–13 in Fort Portal Tourism City.

This year’s festival will also mark a significant milestone, the 30th Coronation Anniversary of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru, the reigning monarch of the Tooro Kingdom.

Speaking to the press, Princess Komuntale fondly recalled her early memories of the festival and her younger brother’s coronation ceremonies, describing the cultural showcase as a source of deep personal joy.

“I call upon all people of Tooro and Ugandans at large to come and enjoy the rich culture of our Kingdom, and to celebrate the amazing King that my brother has become over the years,” she said.

In a landmark moment, Princess Komuntale was officially unveiled as Uganda’s first tourism ambassador in the diaspora. The announcement was made by Uganda Tourism Board CEO Juliana Kagwa, who expressed her delight at the Princess’s acceptance of the role.

“It’s one thing to do the background work and prepare to bring the Princess on board, but it’s another for her to actually accept the role. I truly want to thank Princess Komuntale for agreeing to be our tourism ambassador,” Kagwa said.

Princess Komuntale expressed her gratitude for the appointment and pledged to represent Uganda’s beauty and heritage wherever she goes. “I’m honored to be trusted with this responsibility. I will represent not just Tooro, but Uganda and her beauty, both online and in person, whenever I get the opportunity,” she told the press.

Prince Anthony Phil added that their current home in Texas, United States, is already home to a vibrant Ugandan community that warmly embraces them, which he believes will make the Princess’s ambassadorial work in the diaspora even more impactful.
