KAMPALA - Prominent Kampala City pianist, Henry Mayanja, who doubles as a keyboard vocalist, is plotting a comeback on the entertainment scene with a big bang.
Known for his solo performance at prominent and corporate functions, Mayanja also mesmerises many of his fans with his sweet melodies, often playing the keyboard instrument with high skills and singing in a single performance.
For years, Mayanja had become the first choice in keyboard concerts, but it is evident to many fans that he has been either ‘out of circulation’ on the entertainment scene or his impact has not been felt.
He, however, confirms that in the coming festive season, he is rebounding with a much more resounding success to reclaim his position, to entertain both the young and the old through his magical touch on the piano and many other instruments.
“This time it is not just about giving my music fans a long holiday joy and pleasure, but it is a calculated and strategic move to reclaim my throne as Uganda’s king of live performance,” he recently told journalists.
His manager, Mariam Namakula Nalwoga, who also doubles as an actress and film scriptwriter, says Mayanja’s non-stop and soulful live band compilations are what make him a legend.
“Mayanja is more than ever determined to make this holiday an unforgettable period; he is coming with several new hits, which we hope his music lovers are going to love and enjoy,” she says.
She says Mayanja has been polishing his tracks to perfection at Jona M Real Audio studios at Madirisa Zone in Makindye division, Kampala, which she believes will scoop many during the festive season.
The new singles, according to Nalwoga, include what she termed as a ‘heartfelt ballad’ titled "Bonane", a ‘Happy New Year’ romantic song, his festive anthem "Merry Christmas", “Ensi Ndaba-Ndabe” among others, which are part of his upcoming Christmas album.
“This is not just about securing gigs, it is about Mayanja as a legend reasserting his dominance,” she says.
The new songs are designed to be both radio-friendly and perfect for his live show signature, bridging the gap between his old and new fans, she adds.
She is confident that with Mayanja’s big return, the ‘festive season is about to get a whole lot more interesting’.
“The coming festive season is not going to just be a time for celebration; it is bound to become the battleground where Mayanja plans to cement his legacy once again.”
