Uganda’s film and theatre community is in deep mourning following the sudden death of actress Nicole Maimuna Tumusiime, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 47.
Nicole, best known for her outstanding performances in Junior Drama Club (JDL) on Pearl Magic Prime and various theatrical productions, reportedly died after succumbing to a shock in her office at a newly established school in Matugga, whose name has not been disclosed.
Her untimely death has sent shockwaves throughout the Ugandan film industry, with tributes pouring in from colleagues and friends who described her as a talented, humble and passionate performer dedicated to nurturing young talent.
Ronald Manzi, the Executive Producer of Junior Drama Club, expressed his sorrow, saying, “Nicole was not just an actress; she was a mentor to many of the young performers on the show. Her discipline and warmth made her a pillar on and off set. This loss is beyond words.”
Actor Michael Wawuyo Jr,who shared the screen with her on the JDC television series , added, “She carried her roles with such truth and elegance. It’s heartbreaking to lose someone who inspired so many in our industry. Nicole’s legacy will live on through the stories she helped tell.”
A vigil is scheduled to take place in Jinja on Friday, followed by burial in Bujagaali on Saturday.
Her brother Rayan Oliver says, “We as a family are in shock over losing such a wonderful mother and sister. She died suddenly at her office at her new work place in a school in Matugga which she had had joined just three weeks ago. We are devastated as a family."
Born in 1978, Nicole Maimuna Tumusiime leaves behind a legacy of artistic excellence, mentorship, and love for the performing arts. Her spirit will continue to inspire generations of Ugandan filmmakers and actors.
