In a recent interview, veteran artist Ragga Dee ignited a heated debate within Uganda’s music industry following his blunt remarks about the growing trend of anniversary concerts.

While he recently celebrated 37 Years of Ragga Dee, several other artists have also marked career milestones this year, including Halima Namakula (50 Years), David Lutalo (25 Years), and the upcoming Mickie Wine concert (25 Years).

Ragga Dee, however, has labeled many of these celebrations as misleading. “When someone says they're celebrating so many years in music, let's count from when we actually started hearing their music,” he said. “Some have been lying to us, claiming decades of experience, but when did their music really reach the public?”

His comments have sent ripples through the industry, prompting mixed reactions. While some artists and fans applauded his honesty, others criticized the tone as unnecessarily harsh.

Still, Ragga Dee’s statement serves as a wake-up call for transparency in the music industry. As the landscape continues to evolve, he urges fellow artists to focus on authenticity and producing quality music that truly connects with audiences.

When asked why he didn’t opt for a different theme for his concert, Ragga Dee stood firm. “Why should I? I’ve spent 37 years in the industry and I’ve been honest about my journey. I’m not one of those fabricating stories to gain attention,” he said.

To be fair, not all artists have followed the anniversary trend. Navio offered fans a unique experience with his Orchestral Experience, while Maureen Nantume’s upcoming concert is titled My Story, reflecting a more personal narrative.

Ragga Dee’s remarks have sparked important conversations about legacy, truth, and the evolving standards of recognition in Uganda’s music scene.
