New Rotary governor nominee to champion education, health

The newly elected District Governor Nominee Designate (DGND) Daniel Mukasa Ddamulira has pledged to focus on uplifting education and health services in the district’s area of services.

Ddamulira was elected the DGND before Rotarians from Uganda and Tanzania, at the 99th District Conference and Assembly at Speke Resort Munyonyo recently.

DGND in Rotary means, Ddamulira will take up office in 2026-2027 after Christine Kyeyune Kawooya, who is currently the district governor-elect, completes her term as full district governor in 2026. Kawooya is set to take over office from Francisco Ssemwanga whose one year term expires in June this year.

District 9214 of Rotary has 110 clubs that are spread in Uganda and Tanzania.

While being welcomed as DGND by his club (Rotary club of Mengo) at Pope Paul Memorial Hotel on Monday, last week, Ddamulira said by putting emphasis on education and health, Rotary will have contributed more to having a healthy and knowledgeable population that contribute to the development of their countries.

“In my year, we will see to it that more children are supported to enroll and be retained in schools to attain quality education,” he said.

“My main role as a governor is to mobilise Rotarians to donate funds and their skills to serve the under privileged above self mostly at their club level”.

Ddamulira said in Rotary, there are members who subscribe, however, relax when it comes to serving humanity, a trend he vowed to fight by introducing different motivation strategies to encourage and ignite the spirit of service.

The president of the Rotary Club of Mengo, Geoffrey Lule Kyeyune, said as a club it is a privilege to produce a governor however said it comes with some challenges as there is a lot expected of it from the whole of the district.

He said as a club, they have a lot of trust in DGND Ddamulira, adding that he has been a counsellor for many not only in service but also in trying moment’s sadness and happiness.

He said as he has been at the forefront of the clubs project for the Salaama School for the visually impaired where the club provided brailed mathematics books to the pupils there.

Canon Alice Ddamulira, the wife of the DGND, said his husband will manage to lead Rotarians to serving communities above self, describing him as a simple person with simple needs who carries simplicity around himself.

“My husband is a very hard working, organised person who is always out there to do big things, especially in the voluntary space,” she said.

She added that Ddamulira is passionate about church, the kingdom and has served from being head of laity in the Anglican church of Uganda where he was nominated and elected in absence.

She said the Ddamulira she knows is a person whose capacity and abilities are undoubted, and that with little support from the family he will steer Rotary to greater heights.

Who is Ddamulira

Ddamulira is a professional statistician and Ugandan entrepreneur who founded St. Mark's College Namagoma.

He joined Rotary in 2004 and has spent 20 years in the Rotary Club of Mengo.

At the club level, he has served as a treasurer, secretary, projects director and president.

At the district level, he has served as a treasurer and has also served as a DCA chairperson before he served as an assistant district governor

Ddamulira is a major donor level two, meaning he has donated over USD 25,000 towards the work of the organisation.

The event was graced by Past District Governors Emmanuel Katongole, Francis Xavier Sentamu, Peace Taremwa and many other dignitaries in the Rotary fraternity.
