The Police in Jinja city are investigating the murder of the chief of Magogo parish, Magogo sub-county in Kamuli district, whose body was found with deep cuts.

James Mubi, the Kiira region Police spokesperson, identified the deceased as Rogers Kifubangabo.

It is suspected that Kifubangabo was killed from elsewhere before his body was dumped at Kalina zone, Budhumbuli parish, Bugembe ward in Jinja City Northern Division in the wee hours of Monday morning.

He bore cuts both on the head and neck.

“It is very unfortunate but again, preliminary information suggests that the deceased could have been killed from somewhere else before dumping his body,” Mubi said.

He said the Police was trying to retrieve CCTV footage to see what exactly transpired.

Kifubangabo, the 35-year-old father of three, is the son of Michael Kifubangabo, a news anchor with Baba FM in Bugembe, Jinja City. The deceased also had a stint with Baba TV as a comedian.

Mubi said the body was still at the Jinja Regional Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem exam before the body can be handed over to the family.

“We are still waiting for the body and once Police is through with its postmortem, I will also hand over the body to A-Plus funeral service,” said Michael Kifubangab.

He added that the burial would take place on Wednesday at Nagweni village, Bulopa sub-county in Kamuli district.

Operation

Addressing a press conference at Jinja Central Police Station, on Monday, June 19, Mubi revealed that the Police were done with their intelligence gathering and that the next step is to swing into action.

He announced that they were soon starting an operation dubbed “Toa Ujama” in the areas of Nakanyonyi, Buwekula, Budhumbuli East and Budhumbuli West, including Mafubira.

“We are going to have a thorough sweep. We want to sweep all suspected criminals because we have now realised that the residents are concealing information about wrongdoers and when the criminals turn against them, that is when they start making an alarm,” he said.
