The Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) survivors in Gulu District have asked for compensation from the government.

According to them, the compensation should target all the survivors since the reparations by the International Criminal Court (ICC) under the Trust Fund for Victims is only targeting those in Dominic Ongwen’s case locations.

Christopher Nyeko, one of the survivors, said his life remained shattered even when the guns went silent many years ago.

According to him, he is short of land for settling his family as well the resources for their welfare, something the compensation would help to cover.

Another LRA survivor, Esther Ajok who was abducted at the age of 16, 20 years ago, said life has pushed her to the wall since there is no one to support her.

Ajok revealed that her biggest challenge currently is lack land for settlement and lack of better healthcare service for her ailments.

The LRA survivors were speaking on April 16, 2024, during a community dialogue organised by War Victims and Children’s Networking at Oding Parish, Unyama sub–county in Gulu district.

Stella Lanam, the director of the organisation, revealed that they are currently consulting the LRA survivors in Amuru, Oyam, and Gulu districts as well as Gulu city on the Transitional Justice Policy, in a bid to concretise it.
