Natasha Museveni Karugire led the glowing tributes as her big brother, who is also
Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, celebrated his 50th birthday on Thursday, April 24, 2024.

Sharing a collage of adorable photos on her X, formerly Twitter, handle with her siblings and the birthday boy, Natasha wrote: “The name Kainerugaba means he is with God, or God is with him. May the LORD go before you always, brother, and may He be your rear guard. Birthday blessings”.

She was not the only one to send her regards to Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba. Political leaders, supporters, and friends shared their warm sentiments, with some sharing a collection of photos of the CDF from his younger days to date.

Gen. Kainerugaba was born on April 24, 1974, in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, to President Yoweri Museveni and the First Lady, Mrs. Janet Museveni.

To celebrate his 50th birthday, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba devoted his day to the "Go Greencampaign.

In the company of his wife Charlotte and their daughter Ihunde, Gen. Kainerugaba planted 50 trees at the UPDF barracks in Entebbe. He also commissioned a new Neonatal Special Care Unit at Dr. Ronald Bata Memorial Hospital in Entebbe, which will provide vital care for pre-term babies.

The friends he was with in high school, they could not believe that Muhoozi was already 50 years old.

“ It just struck me that we first met 35 years ago. Wow! A General, a military scholar. a prayerful warrior, a poet, and a dependable elder brother. Salute, Kaka Kainerugaba. 50 is a big deal,” Alan Kasujja, a bosom friend and broadcaster with the BBC, wrote.

“Happy 50th birthday, General Kainerugaba, my friend who became a brother and a leader. All those years ago, when we were kids, if someone asked me what you would become, I would have said Muhoozi was going to be a soldier. To see you as CDF is a great achievement. I wish you the best today and pray that there will be many more years around the sun,” Cedric Babu Ndilima wrote.

On the same platform, Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among expressed her heartfelt congratulations and wished him a prosperous life ahead.

“On this special occasion, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations and wish him all of God's blessings. May he enjoy good health and a long life so that he can continue to serve our motherland. I pray that God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit grant him all the desires of his heart,” Among wrote.

Vision Group Chief Executive Officer, Don Wanyama, wrote on his part, “To many more wins, Kainerugaba. Be blessed,”

Peter Ogwang, the Minister of State for Sports, asked the CDF to continue to blossom like a summer flower and serve his country to the highest point of success.

“As the Bible says in Psalm 71:9, I pray to the Almighty God not to cast you off in the time of old age or forsake you when your strength fails. May you continue to blossom like a summer flower and serve your country to the highest point of success. As the Coordinator of PLU in Teso, I bring you special blessings and tribute from the sub-region,” Ogwang wrote.

The same message was echoed by agriculture minister Frank Tumwebaze: “Continue the course of building a modern and efficient army, a mission you started early in school when you inspired many young graduates to join soldiering. I wish you many more years full of happiness and great impact on our country”.

The former UN Resident Coordinator and Representative in Uganda, Rosa Malango, also called upon God’s grace to be upon him: “May the Lord bless you on your birthday, and may His grace be upon you and your dear mother as you celebrate every birthday”.

His uncle and PLU national vice-chairperson, Michael Kaguta Nuwagira, popularly known as Toyota, said although challenges and victories have characterised the last 50 years, these have acted as a ground to groom Gen. Kainerugaba into a gentleman of extraordinary stature.

“I thank God that these challenges and milestones have been in his life because now we can see presidential material in him. He has turned out to be a statesman,” Nuwagira observed.

He said although Gen. Kainerugaba has of late become busier due to his new role as CDF, PLU would focus on scoring achievements as outlined in their targets for years to come.

These, Nuwagira said, are aimed at improving and providing for the welfare of the youth, lifting the poor out of poverty, and providing alternatives for social and economic transformation mechanisms for the government.
