Clever J's daughter begs dad, Mayanja family to reconcile

The daughter of singer Gerald Muwonge aka Clever J, Tracy Bakhita, came to the limelight in August 2023 during her father's comeback concert, with her shows of excitement upon seeing him back on the stage. Now she is using her voice to cry out to the Mayanja singing family and her father to reconcile after exploring other avenues in vain.

Speaking during a Bukedde TV interview on May 12, 2024, Bakhita, aged 21, hinted at how singers Jose Chameleone and Pallaso promised to give her father a collabo that has since failed to materialise.

To note, Clever J, real name Gerald Muwonge, is a cousin of singers Pallaso, Weasel and Jose Chameleone. The families fell out over allegations of witchcraft.

“Uncle Jose Chameleone, Pallaso and you, dad Clever J,  promised us a collabo, but it has never happened. Dad waited tirelessly and no one responded to the promise. He has now lost hope and he is feeling isolated and not loved by his own brothers. He is always asking himself whether you doubted his talent or he has no future. I am  not happy to see the strong men in the family divided and fighting each other," Bakhita said. 

She pleaded with the Mayanja family to hold family meetings and see how they can resolve their differences.

"I would love to meet my uncles and talk to them physically since I have never met some of them like Pallaso. I am very open and excited for the invite," she said.

The 21-year-old expressed sadness that the families do not unite even in times of trouble and cultural needs.

“It's an abomination in Buganda not to bury someone due to conflict. We lost my grandmother - my dad’s biological mother - and none of the Mayanjas came for the burial. In March, Humphrey Mayanja (brother of Chameleone)  died. My father revenged and did not go for the burial," she said.

Bakhita revealed that when she asked her father why he never went for the burial, he said  Gerald Mayanja (the patriarch) told him not to get involved in their family matters.

She said Clever J told her they would isolate him whenever he would go for family functions.

“My grandfather, Gerald Mayanja, told my dad to never again call himself a brother to his sons. That despite growing up together, it does not mean they are brothers. My dad explained these matters while crying, which showed that he was so hurt. My people, you are my family and it will never change. We are one blood no matter what. I pray we get back together as one family," Bakhita said. 

She further stated that in May 2023, during an interview on Bukedde TV show Vibe Mix that her father heard Pallaso saying that although he (Clever J) looks like them, it doesn't mean they are brothers.

"It hurt me so much because he was denying my dad. If you look at Pallaso and Clever J and compare the faces, you cannot differentiate one from another. I might be young, but I understand. I might be a kid. I should not be involving myself in the issues of older people whose backgrounds I do not know. However, I have to intervene because the issue is likely to affect the future generations," Bakhita said.

She revealed that she has never visited the Mayanja family, but one time bumped into  Chameleone at a concert at Lido Beach in Entebbe in 2022.

“Chameleone did not recognise me. I went on and introduced myself to him as Clever J's daughter. He gave me a warm hug and expressed happiness to see me. He asked to meet my dad. He also asked how my mother, Sharon, was. We never talked much, but I felt at home with him," Bakhita said.

On Tuesday, May 14, 2024 we had a phone interview with Clever J.

“I love my family more than everything else. We are one blood and that will never change. I failed to understand why everything is the way it is now. I tried  to calm the situation, but I failed. It's difficult to impose myself on people who do not need me. I went to my brothers and tried to show them that I do not have any problem with them. However, they always pushed me away. Even the father of my brothers called me himself and warned me to stop involving myself in his family issues. He is the man with the final word who could bring us together. I have now decided to keep away from the family," he said.

Clever J said he has decided to focus his attention on his own family.
