Outgoing deputy speaker of parliament, Jacob Oulanyah, has thanked the people of Omoro for giving him the mandate to represent them in parliament once again.

After taking his oath of allegiance and as Member of Parliament (MP) for Omoro County on Thursday, Oulanyah said his swearing-in has marked a new journey towards improving service delivery for his people.

“Today is the beginning of another journey. A journey in which we must achieve a few things; more focus on improving service delivery and the overall goal of achieving social economic transformation of our people. I thank the people of Omoro for giving me this mandate,” Oulanya said.

The legislator later posted the same message on his Twitter account.

Oulanyah is one of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) legislators vying for the position of speaker of parliament.

Oulanyah is going to tussle it out with another NRM member, the outgoing speaker and Kamuli district woman MP, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga.

Even before the end of the 10th parliament, the two legislators (Oulanyah and Kadaga) have had a protracted verbal fight ever since Oulanyah declared his intentions to stand for the speakership.
