Three people including a bridegroom and his best man have died on the spot in a head-on collision with a taxi.

The duo was on Sunday afternoon returning from a Kuhingira (giveaway ceremony) when the crash at Kahunga trading centre on the Ntungamo-Mbarara highway happened.

The crash, according to Rwizi Police region spokesperson, claimed bridegroom Eng. Kenneth Twesigye, 31, of Rwikiniro, Ruhama in Ntungamo district and best man Eng. Moses Manirakiza of Burungu village Murambi sub-county in Kisoro district.

Reports indicate that the Subaru Forester: UBN 375Q being driven by Manirakiza had a head-on collision with a Toyota Hiace aka Drone: UBP 314A being driven by Herbert Mujurizi aka Raafu. The Drone was coming from Rukungiri heading to Mbarara.

The Subaru Forester, which was coming from the Mbarara side, was being driven in the wrong lane leading to the crash with the taxi.

Apollo Tugume, who attended the giveaway, said the giveaway ceremony was unique considering that the best man, the groom's father, and the bride and groom were all engineers.

Missions co-ordinator of North Kigezi Diocese the Rev. Edison Ampaire, said the couple had been cohabiting and that God had already blessed them with twins.

"They had decided to solemnise their marriage but this has not come to pass," Ampaire said.

Eng. Fred Kabagambe, the father of the bride said: "It was a terrible moment to hear such bad news just minutes after they were here celebrating and enjoying".

Kabagambe said the wedding was to take place on Saturday in Kampala and that his late son-in-law was< at the time of his death, working with the National Water and Sewerage Corporation in Jinja.
