The new Buwenge town council chairperson, Stephen Mwesigye Ngobi, has called upon his opponents to give him their manifestos so that they can be incorporated in his development plans.

Speaking after swearing in at the water offices in Buwenge town in Jinja district recently, Ngobi said he would appoint his contenders on the council committees so that they can serve the people without discrimination.

Fifteen councillors were also sworn in at the function presided over by the Jinja deputy chief administrative officer, Martin Kiplangat, and Buwenge town clerk Badru Mugweri.

Ngobi, who was re-elected to office, said they would ensure garbage collection, street lighting and rehabilitation of roads.

He said they will also connect power to UPE schools in the town and fence off the council offices.

He urged the councillors to work together to promote development.

Mwesigye appointed Asha Kagoya, the councillor for Kagaire Ward as his deputy. Moses Majara was elected finance secretary, while Habibu Mugaya became the health and sports secretary. Florence Katana was made the works and production secretary.

The councillors appointed Asuman Kinigiza as the speaker and Jamila Lukudde Nalongo as his deputy.

Kiplangat urged the councillors to stick to their oaths and to avoid divisions to effectively serve the voters.

He advised the speaker to ensure fairness to steer the council in the right direction.
