THE commission of inquiry into the mismanagement of a sh70b World Bank funded project in the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has recommended the suspension of four top officials of the wildlife body.

The officials include John Makombo, the director for conservation, Grace Kyomuhendo, a financial advisor, Juliet Anguria, a cashier and Vernice Mirembe, a marketing and research officer.

The four are said to have deliberately obstructed the commission in its investigations by concealing evidence pertaining to the probe.

The commission, headed by retired Supreme Court judge, George Kanyeihamba on Tuesday wrote to the permanent secretary of the ministry of trade recommending their immediate suspension.

“The commission has investigated serious offences committed and identified UWA employees who deliberately obstructed the commission from its inquiry by concealing documents,” Kanyeihamba said in a statement.

“The Commission, therefore, recommends that the following be suspended with immediate effect from the wild life body and be strictly prohibited from accessing UWA property, including files and documents,” the statement adds.

Recently, Kanyeihamba and his team of commissioners stormed the UWA head office in Kamwokya, protesting the failure of officials to deliver documents to the probe commission.
