THE Police yesterday arrested five officials of the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) on charges relating to abuse of office.

Chris Katuramu, the former board chairman, and Edward Mugasa Musinguzi, the former managing director, were arrested at the Office of the Prime Minister, where they had gone to hand in their reports.

The two top officials were suspended last week by the information and national guidance minister Kabakumba Masiko to pave way for investigations into allegations that the country’s public broadcaster was dogged by massive corruption.

Also arrested are Patrick Luwera, the finance and administration manager, who is accused of holding two jobs, Felister Bakundaki and Mia Zahura.

The suspended board, which was chaired by Katuramu, also had Pilkington Ssengendo, Dr. Daisy Namono, Fred Bamwesigye, Tom Okurut, Wandera and Oola as members.

Paul Kihika, a commissioner in the gender ministry, has been appointed to temporarily manage the corporation.
